The easiest / fully automated way is to use iCloud.

Sign in to iCloud on all your devices – Apple Support (UK)

Unfortunately you have to pay for the service, only the 5GB plan is free.

With iCloud all photos will be fully automated synced to all devices.

Syncing includes new photos, changes or deleting.

Go to Photos app.

Tap a photo.

In the bottom Left of the screen there is a 'rectangle with an upward arrow'. Tap that.

You will see your Macbook name with an Airdrop symbol on it. Tap that.

The Phone will say "Downloading" if it needs to download the picture from iCloud.

Then you will hear a bell on your Macbook and at the top right of the screen you will get a Notification that you have Airdropped yourself a photo.

Click on that Notification and it will show the photo in the Finder.
