The screen on my Apple Watch series 4 cracked. It worked for some time afterwards but finally has gone all black now. Wondering if it could be traded in?

Unless you plan on keeping and using the Series 4 I recommend you do not service it and just recycle it or sell it for parts yourself. It will cost you $299 to service it and after doing so Apple will at most give you $55 for trading it in, a money losing proposition. Even selling it privately you are looking at best around $125.

A broken device has no trade-in value until it has been repaired.

Based on your situation, I recommend service.

I would chime in that for $100 more they can purchase a Series 8 and have a 1 year warranty and be eligible for AppleCare + or for $50 less than the service price they can buy an SE and again have a one year warranty and option of AppleCare +.

If they do the out-of-warranty replacement they will have a 90 day warranty and less features than they would have on the Series 8 or the SE.
