iPhone hacked - text malware - need help

Back on 9/23 I received a fishing text message from an unknown contact number that also had a string of characters following the unknown phone number.

The text message included a *.text document attachement that now I know was informing me that my amazon account had been hacked and I needed to follow a link to resolve the issue.

Lately the amount of similar spam fishing malware has increase exponentially, so I just flag these messages and block them, at which point iOS takes them away, they dissapear and I never see them again. It is just annoying that I have to deal with this so frequently, but I discard them, no harm done.

Fast forward to today, I switched network, I inserted my new SIM card, and I notice that the MMN multimedia text option from the iPhone disappeared. While fiddling with the settings on the phone, trying to figure out why I no longer had the toggle for MMN, I also noticed, that weird unknown contact number from 9/23, now was showing up as me under the iPhone text app.

The message app not longer showed my name and my number nor my photo as the primary owner contact, now it was that weird unknown number with a string of character.

I tried sending test text from my phone and to my phone, both test text worked, but they were followed by this weird string of characters that made no sense.

Conclusion, I think something has taken over my phone and I wish I could resolve this without having to wipe clean my phone and loose all my data.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you now have a new operator you must do this now, and also if you ever change your number

Settings, Messages, Turn off iMessage

Settings, Face Time, Turn off Face Time

Restart the phone.

Settings, Messages, Turn on iMessage, SMS, MMS

Settings, Messages, send & Receive, select your number which should now be there.

Settings, Face Time, Turn on Face Time

  2. do as I said above ie

Settings, Face Time, Turn off Face Time

Restart the phone.

Why when I received text on my phone, now I get this extra string of random characters with the text?

Hopefully this forum won't delete the photo to illustrate something is not right.

Ask your new phone carrier why text message is their feature not Apples.

When I now click on my photo in the message app, right at the top, instead of showing my information, this is what comes up, and old spam mail from 9/23, that 813 number is not me, that is a spam that came in on 9/23 and I flagged it and blocked it, why is that showing up as me on the message app, I currently have iMessage turned off, I signed off icloud, I resset all network settings, I don't know how to reset my message app, something tool over it.

I don't know how I ended up pinning a spam text to the top, but I think it might have happened because I swiped to the left or right trying to delete the message and ended up pinning it instead.

That takes me to another rant about the modern user interface and all that.

It used to be so simple, that if you didn't like a text and wanted to delete it without even going inside the text, you could just swipe on the text and it would go straight to the trash can.

Today, if you swipe left you pin it, if you wipe right you archive it or sometimes a swipe right could flag it, you just never know what is going to happen or what exactly is happening.

Some phones when you flag a message, it would block the number and delete the message for you, lately when you flag a text, not sure what it does, it doesn't do anything that I can tell.

There's only one additional step now and that's only if the sender is not in your contacts.

Today, if you swipe left you pin it, if you wipe right you archive it or sometimes a swipe right could flag it, you just never know what is going to happen or what exactly is happening.

You can only swipe left in Messages. When you do, you get two options: delete and mute/unmute. You get some additional options if you press and hold on the message. That's where the option to pin the message is.

Some phones when you flag a message, it would block the number and delete the message for you, lately when you flag a text, not sure what it does, it doesn't do anything that I can tell.

You can't (and never have been able to) flag a text message in Messages.

It sounds as if you may be thinking about Mail, a completely different app.
