How to turn off Strong Password Suggestions on iPhone

I've read through several forums but haven't found a straight answer. I like the way Safari auto fills my passwords whenever I'm visiting a known site. But I do not like the "strong Password suggestion" is there a way to remove the suggestion option? I'd hate to stop using Safari for this issue, not only is it time consuming when you're in a rush but also it'll tend to make my iPhone lag whenever I'm selecting from the options. (iPhone 14 Pro Max too) I know it might be an iOS 16 glitch but still, I need this to be an option. Stop forcing us to use features we do not wish, make them options please.

Hi AppleDude909.

If you are using AutoFill Passwords as mentioned in Automatically fill in strong passwords on iPhone there is no way to stop the suggestions of a strong password.

What a pain in the *** strong password is when signing up. I should be able to choose a password without my iPhone taking over whether I have auto fill turned on or off. iPhone shouldn’t try to auto fill when creating a brand new sign. It’s a dumb smart phone. Leave it to apple to break something that didn’t need to be improved.

By far the worst addition made by Apple. Lord forbid I choose to actually use their useless feature and use what looks like the password for my router to my internet - am I supposed to write it down on a piece of paper whenever I want to sign in on something that is not MY apple device?? Absolutely stupid, leave it to apple to ruin something that never had an issue to begin with. I will NEVER remember even 1 of their “suggested” passwords. Someone needs to be demoted lol.

It is broken. When a website requires entering the password a second time, you are unable to enter text, and touching the second text box causes the password in the first box to change. There is no way to complete the process using Strong Password.

It works fine for me. If I want to use the strong password, I do. If I don't, I select the option to use my own password. The strong password box goes away and I can enter any password I like with no problems.

As your device is not working the way it is supposed to, you may want to contact Apple directly:

Based on your description, it sounds you're not entering your own password the same both times. That's easy to do if the log in doesn't allow you to see your password in the clear and doublecheck.

Idris,

No one is doing anything wrong. There is a bug in the system, that needs fixing. As others have repeatedly stated, for the first password, you CAN dismiss the Apple suggestion of a Strong Password, and you CAN enter your own.

However, if you have to re-enter the new password again, Apple's software suggests you use a Strong Password again, and if you say "NO" and opt to enter in your own password, Apple's software erases the first password in full, meaning a user has only two options

I have never experienced this. I regularly use my own password and most sites require that you type it twice.

But, you should certainly let Apple know what you're experiencing and what you would like to see here:

It is actually. You can turn the feature right back on after you turn it off. The problem that I was having was every time I attempted to type in my own password, the second password field would cause the “strong password” feature to active and erase my original password. Therefore blocking me from entering a password. You don’t have to keep the Keychain off, but if you want your phone to stop prompting you with the “strong password” feature, that will do the trick.

thanks again Lawrence, but i just checked and found this:

Apple does, however, welcome your feedback regarding many areas of Apple’s existing business. If you want to send us feedback, we request that you use the forms located at www.apple.com/feedback, where you can choose from the many listed areas for your feedback. Please provide only specific feedback on Apple’s existing products, services and marketing strategies using those forms; and do not send or provide any submissions other than using those forms.

Freeform is an existing Apple product. It is loaded as part of the OS so it's perfectly acceptable to provide feedback there.

... so i'll have to contact Apple and ask if there is any official way to make such suggestions. otherwise with no other alternative, i suppose i'll just keep posting the suggestion on the user forums.

Making suggestions here will not ever get them to Apple.

thankfully, many here have posted in Safari feedback regarding the option for turning off the password suggestion feature. it would be wonderful if we could view all the suggestions & even vote on them. other than emailing the CEO, if you know of a method for the user base to make such a suggestion, please let us know if there is a best way of doing so.

Apple provides the Feedback page, the link to which I have already posted. Viewing and voting on other people's suggestions is not a feature that is offered.

Same problem here. I don't want Apple making my passwords and I don't want all my passwords captive to Apple such that the only way I can login to anything is to use my iphone. No iphone/no apple no login to anything! This is apple's nefarious way to take over your life by trying to own all your passwords, like trying to own all your house and work keys.

You can, through multiple clicks go the bottom and beg/select safari to allow you to define you own password. They made it painful so you would be coerced to let apple own all your passwords. There does not appear to be away to turn this off without breaking more functionality. It's a nefarious feature for Apple to force their way into your life.

And that's why I suggested the feedback page. Apple has made it pretty clear they are not going to expend the enormous amount of time it would take to parse these forums for feedback.

Something like password suggestions is a feature of the operating system, so, use the section of Feedback related to the operating system you're using. Ditto for any pre-installed apps. And, when you can't figure out the right place, do your best and make sure that you are clear in the text box. It will get figured out.

My guess is that sending suggestions like that to Mr. Cook is not going to accomplish much.
