help importing bookmarks to replace existing bookmarks in Safari?

I just exported my bookmarks from Safari into Chrome to take advantage of a great tool Chrome has for cleaning up bookmarks, deleting duplicates and evening old bookmarks that I haven't used in years and didn't want to keep. I ran this and was able to end up with a much less bloated number of bookmarks that are relevant to what I need and use currently in my life. I want to import this new group bookmarks from google chrome back into Safari which I use as my main browser. If possible, I would like to have the new and improved bookmarks replace the bookmarks I currently have in Safari. Usually when I import bookmarks the browser dumps them at the end of your current bookmarks. This requires editing to delete the current ones and move folders etc. Is it possible to import new ones and have them completely replace the ones currently in Safari? I would back them up first, of course. But this would be a great options for those who know the new imported ones are what they want to use in Safari without editing after an import.

Thank you for any wisdom.
