not working with usb mixer

I am trying to record a podcast using an alesis multimix mixer and it is not working. HELP!!!

intel, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

What version multimix, USB, USB 2.0 and number of channels?

Does the mixer show up in garageband>preferences>Audio Midi?

Did you create a real instrument track and chose the correct input channel?

USB 2.0 we have 4 channels (mics) set up. We finally got it to work but it crashes continually when setting up the GB track names and setting the attributes of each track.
Also, none of the LED lights work on the mixer itself, but I'm assuming that's because you're supposed to use GB to monitor the levels during recording.
Seems like an expensive machine just to be able to import the audio to GB and not much else.

The one with 4 xlr is the multimix 8 usb 2.0. Make sure you download the correct drivers for the OS version here http://www.alesis.com/multimix8usb20

And the led should light up on the multimix.

I did. The driver is updated. Still no light up on the mixer. Wonder if it's faulty.

Plugged into AC?

Turned on?

Turn both channel gain and level up?

Sending mix to control room? USB to mix? USB to Control room?
