How do I install an update to allow my IOS device to connect to my Mac?

I keep getting a message that a software update is required to connect my 2014 Mac min to my IOS device. I downloaded the update, but it will not install.


My iPhone is running IOS 16.0


MacBook, macOS 10.15

Are you referring to Related Article?

If you see "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support (UK)


You may need to update the software on your Mac in order for it to recognise your iOS device. 

Click Install to download and install the software so your Mac can update or sync your iOS device.

It is just a small patch for macOS.


You won't notice that update by the way, it only lasted 3 minutes or so.

The Mac remains macOS10.15 and the iPhone remains iOS 116.0

Indeed, you get that message on your Mac.

Use an original Apple USB cable to connect your iPhone to your Mac.

If they are On, turn Off Hotspot & VPN.

Check your router settings: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
