Sliding Window. Multitasking

Sliding Window - ongoing frustration as it opens when I accidentally touch wrong part of screen. Completely ruins browsing experience. How can I disable it this infuriating feature!!! Surely by now Apple should have provided a way.

The multitasking dots at the top of the iPad’s screen are a permanent UI featture of iPadOS, now, and cannot be disabled.

Currently, there is no way to disable this UI feature.

Why is this such an issue with some users?

I can tap anywhere along the top of screen, to do different functions up there, without ever touching those three dots to invoke the iPadOS multitasking window features.

Seems pretty easy to avoid tapping those dots and still touch other things in that area.

There are NOT many things that get put smack dab in the very top upper center of the iPad’s screen.

if using a Web browser, you can tap any place in the address bar to do edits or paste or type a new Website location.

You don't have to tap the very center of the Web address bar, where you can accidentally touch these 3 dots.

Same goes for tapping the top edge of of the screen for doing a quick return scrolling back to the top of a page.

You can still do that by tapping somewhere else along the iPad’s top screen edge , on either side of the three dots..

Still not happy with this feature?

You appear to describe an issue frequently described by users new to iPadOS15 multitasking - specifically when using Safari and tapping the central address/search bar in close proximity to the “three dot” multitasking trigger button.

Be aware that while text shown in the URL/Address field is centre-justified, you can tap anywhere in this field to edit the website address; as such, if you change your conditioned habit of tapping the centre of the field, instead tapping either side, you can completely avoid accidental activation of the “three dot” multitasking button. Similarly, this change permits you to easily tap any of your open tabs, including those towards the centre, without triggering multitasking options.

Unlike iPadOS14 and earlier versions, multi-tasking and its associated controls cannot be disabled from settings. Multi-tasking has received a significant overhaul, both simplifying its use and introducing new controls. Key to accessing and controlling (or avoiding) multi-tasking is the small “three-dot” button that is found at the top-centre edge of the screen.
