Should i worry about battery temperature?

coconut battery shows 36 degrees Celcius while using even when plugged and using AC power.

Is this just inaccurate? Should I worry about battery temperature affecting it's lifespan or should I be okay as long as I operate it in acceptable temperatures?

Gaming in particular requires maximum performance, and that's what Macs are designed for. You cannot harm a Mac just by using it, no matter what the software demands of it. Macs have plenty of built-in protections, both hardware and software-based, to prevent any of its components from overheating.

The battery itself has similar built-in protections that work autonomously and independently.

In short, I don't have to worry about my internal battery temperature. Right?

I suggest that you uninstall "coconut battery" and anything like it. Those things only add to a processor's existing workload. Not by much, but they certainly don't reduce its workload.

Hm, should I really uninstall it? I only use it whenever I check it, and it automatically closes whenever I press the x button. It also only uses less than 1% of the CPU. Even so, do you still think I should still delete it unless I need to check battery health so that I don't......worry about normal behavior............'-' ...

Also, an unrelated question, but I am just curious. How many years of experience have you had with Mac notebooks? 🧐 I'm just wondering how you have so much information about these devices, so I wonder how much experience you have had using them. 🙂

Who knows? Consider asking the developer of "coconut battery" to explain how they determine that temperature and provide a NIST-traceable calibration certificate attesting to its accuracy. Then you can decide for yourself whether it is accurate or not.

Should I worry about battery temperature affecting it's lifespan ...

A portable Mac's battery is charged and discharged when required, and the temperatures resulting from those activities is not something you can control.

Yes. Refer to the environmental limitations for your model Mac. For example, MacBook Air with M1 chip - Tech Specs - Apple.

I suggest that you uninstall it for the reasons I explained. Non-Apple things that "monitor" a Mac while doing nothing for productivity, communications, organization, entertainment and so forth simply don't interest me. It's your Mac though, and your reasons for having one are yours to determine.

I've been using Macs since 1985 and other computers well before that — even "laptops" with batteries that were usually good for about twenty minutes of use on a full charge.

An additional note, though coconut battery shows 36-37c battery temp. The left and right palm rest and the touchpad don't seem to be that warm; I say it is usually this temperature, especially on a hot day. I see some users reporting the touchpad and left and right palm rest being uncomfortably and hot; for me, the heat in these areas is usually rarely ever warmer, usually, it's not even *that* much warmer and it happens when I'm running a game combined with a hot day.

Also, will running CPU-intensive software cause heat that further degrades the battery? I heard it is not something one should worry about because the heat usually stays on the top side of the mac - away from the battery. And my mac is known for running processor-heavy tasks all the time.

In short, I don't have to worry about my internal battery temperature. Right? Because unless it is extremely cold or hot, it is normal/expected. Right?

I only use my Mac indoors to keep it at an acceptable operating temperature. So should i be perfectly fine?
