iPhone 14 Pro - Camera Blurry for Close Up Picture using third party apps

Whenever you take a close up image or picture using a third party app like for IDs and other images that needs to be taken closely the image is blurry. I tried different settings and also cleared the camera app but still the same. It seems that the third party app doesnt automatically switch to the Macro Camera to do the close up photos.

Greetings, Fynnn.

Since third-party camera apps aren’t responding as expected, work through the following steps to resolve the issue:

1. Close, then open the app.

2. Restart your iPhone 14.

3. Make sure the apps and your iOS is updated.

4. Delete and download the app again.

For more in depth steps, check out: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

We hop this helps resolve the issue with third-party camera apps not working as expected.

Best wishes.

I was told by apple, switching to Macro Camera is a duty of the app and not a functionality of iOS. So there should be an system call which allows the app to switch. I did not double check if this is existing.

However I have the feeling my business card app i used changed in this sense and does work now, which did not 2Month ago.

So - write your App Developer in store, to change this.

Just bought a iPhone 14 pro max and was disappointed to see that taking a flash selfie in Snapchat for example, looks terrible. My iPhone 12 Pro looked far better. (Looks on par with my old iPhone 7) Hoping they will address this software issue. Frustrated to see an expensive downgrade.

So right now the only fix that working for iPhone 14 is to force restart(volume up then volume down then hold the power button till u see the apple logo). It's just lets you use any third-party apps right after the restart, but after sometime the issue will come back again. What we could do is keep sending complaints to the third party apps to fix this because they need to configure the app comparable for iPhone 14 Camara system.

iPhone 14 pro that just came in December does not allow third party apps to scan codes, full stop. I’ve tried all of the suggested steps shared above, and that of about five other blogs to no avail. What an expensive hunk of junk. Don’t blame the app developers for not intuiting your changes.

Dear Alyaw

I am using iPhone 14 Pro Max - with 3 Cameras

In November - only built In Camera APP was able to create pictures below 10-15cm distance.

All other apps where not able to Zoom in, it got blurry.

So I called Apple Support. After some back and forth, Apple explained: App Developers must switch from one lens to the other them self - its duty of the App.

I am using by Example ABBYY BCR (i am user, so nothing to do with this company beside of using it), and it was NOT able to take readable picture of any Business Card - not even with 10-15cm, never got readable/sharp in November. Same test in December, I can get as close as 5cm and get a super sharp picture, even beeing able to see structure. Same thing with WorldCard, which is working as well since now.

As a comparison, ScanBizCards is still not able to take any sharp picture below 15cm and therefore is useless.

If you look for QR Codes or BarCodes, tools like "Quick Scan" and "QR-Code" still are useless due to this problem. And Reality above proofs, if you look at QRbot, where you can See in Settings - Camera - there are all of the 4 (if you do use a standard 14, 3) Cameras can be seen. Once I switched to "Backsid Ultra Wide", I get super Sharp pictures and it reads Barcodes and QR-Codes like a charm.

--> So YES this App proofs - its up to the App to decide which CAM to use from my learning.

I hope this helps everyone which needs QR/BarCode Readin or is looking for Business Card reading.

Apples Advise: conntact your "App Provider" letting him know about the problem.

If you paid, and it does not work anymore, no reaction - then give him the raiting he deserves for not maintaining his app.

Yes, I read that, how convenient Apple provides a way to rate the app developers, whom Apple foisted a change on, and not enable a way to rate Apple’s performance in this issue. I get that I’ll have to harass any developer whose app I need to use the camera on that is affected, but there was one change here across multiple apps and that change was with Apple. Perhaps they should do more to get app developers to make the switch. It’s basically a screw the end user approach with that as a solution. Consider this my review/rating then of Apple and its exponentially more expensive product.
