Temperature warning, and refurbished iPhone XR

I just got this refurbished iPhone XR from Walmart marketplace. Every now and again, when I’m sitting inside messing with my phone and charging it at the same time I’ll get a temperature notice. The notice says that my phone is stopping charging until it cools down. Just wondering if I should return it. It doesn’t happen a lot, but it happens more than it should, especially if I’m using the phone while charging.

It basically shouldn't happen at all. Yes, there are circumstances that it can, but unless you are leaving the phone in direct sunlight (on a very hot day or inside a car), or playing graphics-intensive games, again, it shouldn't happen. Oh, and just charging the phone shouldn't trigger this warning either ... even if the phone gets a bit warm while charging

If it were me I would go with your suggestion to return it.
