Archive vs Trash in mail app

Why can't I have both options at the same time? Or is that already possible, the settings make it look like it's one or the other as an option and I use both. Some things I want to archive to have access to later and the million sales spam messages I like to delete to not use up space.

Hi q34AIQUPHERGFIUQ3GNP,

Thanks for posting in Apple Communities.

We understand that you want to use archive and trash option on iPhone. You would have to change the settings for the Mail account.

To make Archive available on swipe:

  1. Open Settings app
  2. Tap Mail
  3. Choose Swipe Options
  4. Select Swipe Left or Swipe Right
  5. Change the action to Archive.

To delete a single email:

1. Open Mail and go to your Inbox.
2. Tap Edit in the upper-right corner, then select the email that you want to delete.
3. Tap Trash or Archive.
You can also quickly swipe left over a single email to delete it. Or touch and hold the email from your Inbox, then tap the Trash button  in the menu that pops up.
If you're trying to delete a message from within the email, tap the Archive button  or the Trash button , then tap Archive Message or Trash Message.

You can find these steps and more in Delete emails on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Regards.
