Does Intel 2020 Macbook Pro support Display Port 1.4

Hi all,

I'd like to buy an adapter which supports 4k 60Hz for a monitor, but it says to enable 60Hz, my device will need to support DP 1.4 Alt Mode. According to MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) - Technical Specifications (UK), the Macbook support display port but I don't know if its 1.4 or not. Even if the Macbook does, will the monitor need a 'display port' port, or would HDMI work (provided the Macbook supports it)?

Here's the hub I'd like to buy. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Dockteck-Multiport-Connection-Compatible-Black/dp/B08SM393WB/ref=pd_rhf_d_gw_s_pd_sbs_rvi_sccl_1_4/259-9205156-7795114?pd_rd_w=8HUrL&content-id=amzn1.sym.0963df7f-7cea-4859-a393-2a2c2885a717&pf_rd_p=0963df7f-7cea-4859-a393-2a2c2885a717&pf_rd_r=FPKQ0QSABAG2H29VVYB2&pd_rd_wg=j86d0&pd_rd_r=4f6a154a-9416-4358-a883-5f6c527f919c&pd_rd_i=B08SM393WB&psc=1

Here's what I find interesting:

Video Support

Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at millions of colors and:

  • One external 5K display with 5120-by-2880 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors, or
  • Up to two external 4K displays with 4096-by-2304 resolution at 60Hz at millions of colors

Thunderbolt 3 digital video output

  • Native DisplayPort output over USB‑C
  • VGA, HDMI, DVI, and Thunderbolt 2 output supported using adapters (sold separately)

Does this mean that there's no point in getting a monitor for my mac above 60Hz?

Charging and Expansion

Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for:

  • Charging
  • DisplayPort
  • Thunderbolt (up to 40Gb/s)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s)

Thanks :)

Hello Zacenator,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Do you already have the display that you want to use? If so, we recommend that you purchase the adapter or hub that will work with your Mac and the monitor. Here’s more about connecting a display to your Mac: Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support

Connect your display

Connect your display to power, then connect your display to your Mac. Check the ports on your Mac to find out whether you need an adapter. If you're using a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter to connect your display, the adapter must be compliant with DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt 3, or Thunderbolt 4.
