The first TimeMachine backup always takes a long time.

Although you can trust the progression percentage as accurate, the amount of time remaining is pure fantasy. It goes up and down all the time depending on the guesses made by the application. Yes, time remaining is a guess.

Leave it for the day and see what happens.

In addition, how fast a Time Machine backup progresses in its first backup depends on the drive you are backing up to and how much needs to be backed up.

If it is an SSD, it will be relatively quick. For my M1 MacBook Air with ~200 GB it takes about 45 minutes with a Samsung T7 SSD. If is is a regular HDD with only a 5400 RPM drive, the backup will could be three to four times longer or more.
