Does anyone know the best way to stop the Government from monitoring one’s email searches?

It is perhaps worthwhile to recognise that organised “nation state” monitoring of communications, that occurs in many countries of the globe, cannot be avoided. For nation-state monitoring, perhaps consider that the more you attempt to hide your activity, the more interest you are likely to attract.

In addition to some repressive states found in some regions of the world, many first-world countries (such as the “five-eyes” alliance) routinely bulk-monitor internet and communication traffic - and collect/derive intelligence from it. Unless you engage in activities that threaten national security or participate in organised crime, your individual activity is very unlikely to be of any interest to the authorities whatsoever.

Individual communication can be secured using end-to-end encryption - however, for most end-users, successfully implementing an appropriate solution is impractical; unless the recipients with which you intend to communicate employ the same measures as yourself, you’ll not be able to communicate.

As for “searches” that you make online, these will ultimately rely upon search-engines and DNS lookup of internet resources. Both the search engine and your DNS provider will unavoidably have access to and full visibility of your search history - and in many cases, at the very least, will use this information to “profile” both you and your interests, at the very least for advertising and marketing purposes. You will have of course heard of Google, Meta and other giants in this arena - all of which harvest, process and sell your metadata.

There are measures to reduce your exposure to information harvesting - but recognise that complete anonymity when using the internet is impossible to acheive.
