delete icloud email created during iphone setup

Hello,

I did setup an old iPhone for my daughter using a managed child account.

Her apple ID is a gmail account, she does not need an icloud.com email account.

Somehow, during the iPhone setup, an icloud.com email address has been created for her, now sitting in her apple ID account next to her gmail address.

She does not need an email at icloud.com, however I do not seem to be able to delete it.

How to delete an unwanted icloud.com email address without deleting the whole apple ID account associated to her gmail address?

Thanks!

iPhone 7

Oloap66,

You did not do anything wrong. When you create a new Apple ID, an alternate primary email address is created as well. This is expected behavior. This Apple ID can also be used to login to your account as well. However, you will not be able to delete it.

Note: You can’t delete or turn off a primary iCloud Mail address. You can’t use an alias to create a separate Apple ID, and an email alias can’t be converted to a primary iCloud Mail address.

When family sharing account is set , the mail address can never be separated from apple id ( the Apple ID is set with gmail services ) .

You are not understanding what I am trying to explain , the mail account will always be attached when a user signs in with Apple ID , this is family sharing account .

There is no option as click on subtract sign to remove the mail address , it simply syncs with iCloud .

Exactly , signing out Apple ID from iPhone will make it inconvenient and you will not be able to use iCloud features , but the account is set as a family sharing account in which primary Apple ID plus mail address is configured ( with apple mail application ) , you as parent has created an Apple ID for a child .

Family sharing account works differently than non sharing family sharing account .

In non family sharing accounts the apple id can be signed out and another Apple ID can be created and signed in .

Other options are you as the organiser can disband the group Leave or remove a member from a Family Sharing group on iPhone - Apple Support

This will convert family sharing account to non family sharing account , in which a simple Apple ID address is signed , the mail application is configured ( that mail address is showing with family sharing account will not be configured ) .

Thanks for your answer… but it does not make any sense.

On other apple IDs, such icloud email address has never been created; why did it appear out of nowhere for my daughter account and why can’t I delete it?

Your suggested setting seems only to impact the email app and its automatic setup with such unwanted email address.

Elsewhere on the account the icloud email address keeps polluting the configuration, for example offering itself for the setup of imessage and facetime.

Why can’t I just delete it and keep the apple ID without icloud email as with my own ID?

Apple also picked the ID and I can’t even change it.

What did I do wrong to have that created?

The mail application is configured using this article Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Your Apple ID is signed in the iPhone , if you want to delete mail address that is added in apple mail application , it can't be removed individually , however it can only be added.

It depends which mail domain is used for creating an Apple ID like example2@gmail.com , definitely the primary Apple ID example1@icloud.com is to be signed out Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac - Apple Support

This will remove Apple ID plus the mail account .

Thanks, but not what I asked in my original post. Signin out the phone from the apple ID makes the phone practically unusable.

I’d like the apple ID of my daughter not to have an icloud.com address that I do not need and makes things confused. Using the apple ID without such a useless addition is definitely possible because my own apple ID does not have one.

It would also be interesting to know why/how such an email address has been created when I setup my daughter phone; I did not explicitly ask for it. What happened differently for her apple ID creation than for mine???
