Cellular data turned off - getting rid of the notification

Hey everyone,

Currently with my iPhone 4, I've been experiencing more of a nuisance than a problem.

Whenever I'm away from home and really want to save battery, I'll turn off my wifi. However, since I have only 200MB a month, I also turn off my cellular data in order to avoid going over my plan. Because the iPhone is such an ingenious device, it finds the need to tell me every minute or so that my cellular data is turned off. So I just press okay and continue on with texting or whatever I was doing. And then it'll interrupt again. And again. You get the idea.

Any way to turn this notification off? I've turned off all of my push notifications, including email. Help would be very much appreciated.

An app must be trying to access the internet when this notification is provided. I believe MMS with the iPhone may use data. Try turning MMS off to see if this makes any difference.

Hey i got the same problem. So in response to allan sampson, i disabled cellular data, MMS, 3G. And whenever im not on wifi and im texting, this message pops up... And theres no other application running in the background that may want to use the internet.

Turning 3G network access does nothing by itself, but turning cellular data off prevents internet access via the cellular network. Texting is exchanged via the same network as calls. If there is nothing trying to access the internet via the cellular network, there should be no such notification.

Hey guys I had this problem too, I fixed it by turning off FaceTime under Phone in the settings menu. Hopefully this helps you all as it did me!

I've updated to 4.2 IOS and I got the popup back now. I think it has something to do with the game center they forced you to install

No matter what i turn off or try i keep getting this error message or notification.

No-one from Apple here sorry!

I run my iphone 4 the same way,
mobile data turned off almost always.
Wifi off sometimes, but often without a signal.

I only get the pop up when I open the mail app, maps, browser or anything that uses the net.
No pop ups or complaints.
I also have 4.1 installed, and game center can be started and looked at with out network or wifi with no pop-ups.
So I am assuming that's not it.

Check your mail settings.
Push should be off; mine is set to fetch "Hourly" (and still with out wifi or network it doesn't bother me unless I actually open the mail app).

chill out fanboy, apple is the best. that's why this particular mistake is unacceptable. there is no reason to seek data connection upon sending sms. please test your device for me with the following settings;

"cellular data: off
3g: off
wi-fi: off

run messages app and wait for 5-10 seconds"

by the way i have all push notifications turned off and fetching by hand only. no other app in background. nothing possibly needing any connection.

Discovered also that you'll need to select someone from the phonebook after starting message app to get this popup. By the way my phonebook has the notification (From PC) in the title which i'm guessing have appeared due to restoring my contacts after os4.1 upgrade. Popup appears after selecting someone from contacts and while typing the message, or it might pop up on the contacts screen if i wait long enough. Only happens in message app (ie. no pop up if i access my contacts through phone app or directly by Contacts button itself.)

Mine is playing up too.
My provider charges exorbitant rates for data ($3.50 per Megabyte), so I need mine turned off. What I was forced to do before iOS4 provided the 'Off' button for cellular data, was to enter an invalid username/password combination for the APN settings.
However, since the iOS4 update, that keeps bringing up the message "Cannot connect to cellular network" every time I use SMS.
So it seems something in the SMS app is trying to access the internet every time I use it.
