update Apple ID settings on iPhone

I have a new iPhone and I am signed into my Apple ID for iCloud media and purchases but below this it asks for me to Update Apple ID settings and there is a red circle with a 1 in it

when I click on it there is a message

update Apple ID settings and below it says some account services will not be available until you sign in again

I click continue and it asks to enter the password for my apple id.

I put the password in and after a few seconds it goes back to some account services will not be available until you sign in again

I am using the correct Apple ID as I have signed in on my iMac with the same id

I tried all things suggested re turning of wifi and iMessage etc then re booting but nothing works

any help would be appreciated
