Pairing with pencil

My iPad 9th generation has the magnetic strip on the right side. Will my second gen Apple Pencil work with it?

No. 9th generation iPads do not have the appropriate magnetic strip for the Second generation Apple Pencil.

Apple Pencil 2 compatible magnetic strip on an iPad:

The magnetic dots on the 9th gen iPad model are for the keyboard only.

As the article linked above explains, no, but a first generation Apple Pencil works with this iPad model.
