Windows shortcuts and Apple aliases

I have a share point on my 10.4.11 file server shared out via SMB. When I connect via Windows machine and create shortcuts, the Mac users can't use them. When I create Apple aliases, Windows machines don't recognize them.

Is there a cross platform way to make aliases/shortcuts available to everyone?
