Audio Midi Set Up Missing "built-in output"

I'm trying to set up Quicktime to record sound from the screen and I can't get the built-in output option in the audio midi set up. I found this strand about how to fix this, but the solution to "right-click and select 'use this device for sound output'" does not work. When I do that, the "use this device for sound output" is grayed out and I can't figure out how to make this work.

Any suggestions?

You have "MacBook Pro Speakers" - that's your built-in output!

To elaborate a bit:

a) you want that Multi-Output device to include BlackHole, and the speakers;

b) when recording with Quicktime Player, set the audio output to this Multi-Output device, and the audio input to be BlackHole.

This allows audio to "pipe through" to from output to input, while at the same time playing on your speakers, so you can monitor it while recording.

Also: if you prefer headphones, have them plugged while creating the Multi-Output Device in Audio MIDI Setup, and you can use them instead of the speakers.
