Typing breathings in Greek font

Yesterday I discovered that Snow Leopard comes with a font for Greek (woo-hoo!), but I haven't found a key to add soft and rough breathing marks. I'm writing in ancient (koine) Greek. Perhaps modern Greek (which I know nothing about) doesn't use breathings and this font is for modern Greek? Do I need to download a new font? Thanks for any advice.

No, OS X comes fully equipped for ancient Greek, with both fonts and a keyboard layout. Go to system prefs/language & text/input sources and check the boxes for Polytonic Greek and Keyboard Viewer, plus the box for Show Input Menu in Menu Bar. Then select Polytonic Greek in the Menu Bar and activate Keyboard Viewer from the same place and you should see how to type all the breathings via deadkeys.

wildertower, as Tom noted, you don’t need to download additional fonts; however, additional fonts that support the breathing marks for koinē are freely available. The [Greek Font Society|http://www.greekfontsociety.gr/pages/en_typefaces19th.html] has a nice variety from which to choose. (The link goes to their 19th century typeface page, and links for typefaces from other centuries can be found there.)
