SOVA virus
I've heard of a new trojan type virus that gains access via mac address not the typical IP address. Can anyone confirm this? Next, are my Apple devices protected against this?

SOVA is an Android trojan. Nothing to do with Macs.
And you can rest knowing that no virus can infect your Mac. It has its own built in protection and the OS is write protected, so it cannot be changed or affected. It is possible to be affected by Malware but the app Malwarebytes is effecting in clearing that.
Additionally, and specific to Big Sur macOS 11 and Monterey macOS 12, the Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User.
