iPhone SE2020 failing to connect to iMac mid 2015 OS Big Sur

When I try to connect the iPhone to the iMac all I get is the 'bouncing' icon, but no connection. Anyone can help PLEASE?

Do either the Mac or the phone have security software of any kind?

Have you restarted both devices?

Thanks LD150 for the rapid response. No security software other than the standard Apple stuff and I have tried the restart all to no avail. I'll pursue Apple Support. Thanks again.
