Microphone not working - calls and voice messaging disabled

In the last day, something has happened with my microphone. I cannot make or receive calls, and videos I record have no sound. I cannot record voice messages in my messaging apps, and I also can’t use talk to text. I’m restricted to text only right now. I have done the basic troubleshooting - microphone is enabled for all necessary apps and I have both cellular and WiFi signal. I’ve also rebooted my phone but nothing is working.

Hi RandiW23,

If you are having trouble with the microphone on your iPhone, see if this happens in multiple apps by testing it in Voice Memos, or making a FaceTime call. Follow If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working:

"If people can't hear you on phone or FaceTime calls

Open the Voice Memos app.
Tap the Record button , speak at the bottom of your phone, then stop the recording.
When you play back the memo, you should hear your voice clearly."

If this happens with multiple apps, look into iPhone Service & Repair or Find Locations Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store near you for service.

If this doesn't happen in multiple apps but the issue persists, Contact Apple Support or use this Get Support link.
