Connection Doctor (Monterey)

MBA M2 / It seems to be very sketchy status. All IMAP accounts are always "Green" but the SMTP status is most alway RED, yet I can send mail out! It doesn't make any sense. The RED status narrative says "could not connect to the server." Busy? All the time busy? (I'm with Comcast/Xfinity servers.) So, if the mail gets sent, I guess we disregard the RED status as it just means the Mac couldn't get in to query the server... and not that it's actually 'down'.

Hi PulsarProFX,

If you are having trouble connecting to your email account in the Mail app, there are three steps in If you can’t send emails in Mail on Mac you can follow:

  1. Make sure the outgoing (SMTP) mail server is specified as directed by the provider of your email account. See Verify an email account’s outgoing server.
  2. Choose Window > Connection Doctor, then follow the instructions displayed in the Details column.
  3. If there’s a firewall problem, verify that firewall software isn’t blocking email traffic on port 25, 465, or 587."

As it is having trouble connecting, also check out If Mail on your Mac can’t connect to your email account.

Take care.
