Click on date in menu bar - I want to see full date & preference link

How can I simply keep a shorter date in the menu then just click on it to see the full date?

I want to see this, as I did in Mojave:

But after seeing a bunch of annoying widgets then removing them, I have to keep a long version of the date, & when I click on it all I can see is:

THIS is why I waited 2 years to update from Mojave.

About the best you could do is add the Month view Calendar to the top of the widgets.
