I did not know what to do when I had a large black circle on one phone and a fuzzy blue circle. They seemed to line up when I placed them head-to-toe facing each other. Nothing hppened overnight. NO DIRECTIONS ARE DISPLAYED. Thanks, Apple!
I finally called Apple support where I learned that the black circle was a camera to be used to scan the fuzzy blue circle. That worked.
Now my iPhone 7 calls itself iPhone 6s (6) and I am unable to change that name.
It was hard to get started. Apple wants both phones upgraded to IOS 15.7. iTunes refuses to update saying it, itself, is not the latest version. That all seems too arbitrary - what difference can it make? Apple is NOT user-friendly.

On the phone go to Settings/General/About and tap on the name. You can edit it, and call it anything you want. For example, my iPhone’s name is Don’t Panic.
You can only update a phone to the latest available version, which as of today is 16.0.3 for an iPhone 8 or newer, or 15.7 for iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and iPhone SE 1st edition.
