Two iphone12s are in direct view of a cell tower and have had 4 bars until just recently, now 1 bar. I have looked up the raw signal (rsrp) - it is -117. Poor to no signal. How do we know whether it is cell tower or antennas on our phone antenna or a sw issue? Might it be a sw issue forcing folks to iPhone 14?
Well, issue answered. Turned my wifi off and 5G is now displayed on both phones. So, that must be the problem - the tower has been converted to 5G. Can anything be done to optimize?
Have you tried driving to a different location to see if the signal improves?

Do you remember what type of signal you were using when you had 4 bars, was it a 4G/LTE signal? Is it now a 5G signal?
The reason I ask is because 5G doesn't have the range that a 4G signal does.
I think it was 4G and think it continues to be 4G, as it does not display 5G by the bars. We are in a rural area, when we are in cities the phone usually displays 5G. Is there another place to check besides the bar display? I realize 5G doesn’t have the range but we are in direct sight of the tower and it’s not that far. Maybe there’s an issue with the tower. Will check other locations tomorrow.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, my next step is to try other locations. Don’t believe it is matter of phone antenna because 2 identical phones are having same issue.
