iCloud contacts and Whatsapp

Device: iPhone XR

I've run into what seems to be an issue with Whatsapp and contacts which are specifically stored in iCloud. Whatsapp has permissions to Contacts but it seems that while the entries which are stored in the iPhone contact list are fine, contacts which are only in iCloud are not picked up. Also adding a contact to the iPhone contacts from Whatsapp will create one, but you will be creating a duplicate if there exists an entry for that in iCloud. Has anyone else come across this and found a way around it?

Hello Ragnaroque,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We see you have some questions about WhatsApp, and we'd like to help. Do you have issues with the Contacts app with your iPhone as well? If not, we'd recommend reaching out to the developer: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

1) Open the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
2) Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
3) The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.

Regards.
