If I delete a Playlist, will that reduce the storage used on my ipad, or do I need to delete the actual songs from My Music? Thanks.

The playlist itself is just a list - and is very small. Deletion of a playlist will release on a few bytes of data.
Deletion of the music files themselves, which by comparison are comparatively very large, will release considerably more storage.
