Lightning Digital AV Adapter

Did they upgrade the Lightning Digital AV Adapter to no need a power source? I bought one a year ago and I have to have the power supply attached at all times and with a full charge on my phone the adapter gets really hot an overheated, so im looking to replace my old one but with one that doesn’t need a power source plugged in 24/7

Salutations nikie224,

Here’s some information on using the Lightning Digital AV Adapter About Apple Digital AV Adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Though it says charging your device while it’s connected to a display is an option, it doesn’t state that it is required.

Charge your iOS device while it's connected to a display
Most adapters have an extra Lightning connector or 30-pin Dock connector, so you can charge your iOS device while connected to a secondary display. Just connect a Lightning to USB or Dock Connector to USB to the adapter. Then plug the USB connector into a power source.

Thanks.
