Continuity camera worked just fine when I first tried it. I pressed disconnect when i was done with my initial demo. Now the iphone camera won’t work. The camera isn’t registering with my M1 Mac Mini unless i plug it in via lightning. Please help

There are no buttons I can find to reconnect.

I just put the iPhone in Horizontal mode, closed Lock Screen (Black it out by pressing right side button), and then put the phone within an inch or two of Mac screen and it auto turns on and reconnects. The trick is looking at the iPhone, as if you were trying to Face ID unlock it.

Try it a few times and it's a snap.

Disconnect.

Lock Screen

Black out Lock Screen by pressing right side button.

Turn phone horizontal

Bring next to computer - like place it on keyboard and rest it against screen.

Then look directly at phone.

It just works!

I had the same problem.

Just followed the instructions "exactly" as Apple states.

I literally leaned the locked iPhone horizontally against the Mac mini to "be as close as possible" and when I opened FaceTime or Photo Booth, the image loaded automatically and wirelessly.

The iPhone can then be moved at will and within wireless range.

Interestingly, the iPhone does not have to be on the same Wi-Fi. It probably can't be connected to a different network than a Mac but demonstrably it can remain unconnected to the network and just have Wi-Fi turned on. I have my iPhone set to not connect itself to any network because it then can't disconnect and stubbornly tries to stay on Wi-Fi even when it's practically out of range. Which, during calls, can drive me crazy.

So hopefully this will help others.

Make sure you followed these steps exactly - Use your iPhone as a webcam on your Mac - Apple Support

If it still doesn't work, check the following:
1. Connect it to your Mac with a USB cable and check again. (If it’s already connected with a cable, disconnect it and reconnect it.)
2. Check the following:
- Your iPhone is an iPhone XR or later (with iOS 16 or later).
- Your iPhone has Continuity Camera Webcam turned on in Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff.
- Your iPhone recognizes the Mac as a trusted computer. See the Apple Support article About the ‘Trust -This Computer’ alert on your iPhone or iPad.
- Your iPhone and Mac have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and two-factor authentication turned on.
- Your iPhone and Mac are signed in with the same Apple ID. (This feature doesn’t work with Managed Apple IDs.)
- Your iPhone and Mac are within 30 feet of each other.
- Your iPhone is not sharing its cellular connection, and your Mac is not sharing its internet connection.
