I just updated my iPhone 11 to iOS 16.2 and now my lock screen is displaying just a black screen with the time, flashlight, and camera icons. I restarted the phone and verified that Settings/Wallpaper is set to select the wallpaper image that I have been using for years. After restarting the iPhone, the correct wallpaper was displayed but the next time the display went to sleep, it was again just showing the black background image.

I just got off the phone with support at Apple with this same problem, my custom images I've had set for my Home and Lock screens are suddenly missing and I'm seeing a black background for both since the iOS 16.1 update. The first support person had me heading down a path backing up then wiping my phone completely, and restoring it to factory settings and reinstalling iOS 16.1. Luckily, they sent me to a senior support person, who diagnosed the problem -- and it's now solved. The issue had to do with my Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and Sleep settings. If you have those Focus times set, you MUST select a Customized Screen for Lock and Home screens, or else when those Focus times kick on, the screen settings will default to black (nothing). Once we figured this out, I reset my non-focus Home and Lock screens to my original photos and the issue has not reoccurred.
This is outrageous! I want my Home Screen and Lock Screen wallpapers back! I’ve tried adding new wallpaper, but it just reverts to black. Apple, fix this now!!!
Any idea when Apple will release a software update that will fix this issue?

Nope. Those general instructions for changing the wallpaper don't address the basic issue and seem to only provide a temporary correction.
I imagine it reset when the upgrade happened. I selected a photo to use as my wallpaper, but now it uses the same one for my lock screen as well as my home. Before I had 2 different photos.

Mine was black the all of a sudden after a change it’s gone two days back to normal BUT now Siri can’t do the *67 and dialing again! This was supposedly fixed earlier this year!!
Spoke too soon! Black is back but so is the *67!!
Far as I can tell, there does not appear to be a way to edit the clock font on the DEFAULT lock screen. However, you will be able to edit the clock font on any additional lock screens that you add.
I tried adding an additional lock screen (using the customize button) and holding down on the clock in the same manner to bring up the "customize" button. Nothing came up for me.
Wallpaper disappears. Reboot fixed temporarily but it keeps happening. Please fix this! Once I had to reboot TWO times in row!! Not a happy customer.
This isn’t the issue at hand though. We don’t need to know how to change the background/Lock Screen.

I’m on 16.1.1 update and I’m getting black screen and lost my screen saver.
iOS 16.1.2 is now out and worth a try. I recovered my old wallpaper following instructions others have posted here and am now running 16.1.2 with no issues.
