iOS 16.1 Lock Screen Wallpaper Display

I just updated my iPhone 11 to iOS 16.2 and now my lock screen is displaying just a black screen with the time, flashlight, and camera icons. I restarted the phone and verified that Settings/Wallpaper is set to select the wallpaper image that I have been using for years. After restarting the iPhone, the correct wallpaper was displayed but the next time the display went to sleep, it was again just showing the black background image.

I have worked around this issue by going to Settings/Wallpaper/+Add New Wallpaper and then selecting the wallpaper image I used in the past.

Take a 'screen shot' of your favorite wallpaper image by bringing it up on the screen and snapping a photo of it. The select that new photo as your wallpaper. We did that several weeks ago and the new one is still working. Seems like there may be an issue with older picture formats that allows the wallpaper to go to black in the iOS updates. The newer photo apparently resolves that.

In our case the file format of the 'screen shot' is .jpg, file size is 72k. It might make a difference what size & file format your screen shot is. I can say that using our screen shot image worked and has continued to work for weeks. Before we did that, the old image could be used as wallpaper but then wallpaper would go to black after several minutes -- without fail. No other settings were changed. Some users have suggested additional settings to change that might affect this issue. Best of luck. Apple has not responded to this issue and most likely will not do so on this forum. I have never seen any discussions where they participated.

Good freaking grief! This problem has going on for at least 5 months, and they didn't even fix it in the latest update? But we got more emoji! 🙄

What a load, apple!

Both my iphone and ipad currently have this exact same problem. And now it's April 2023. I'd really like to have wallpaper that STICKS. That's the definition of the term. Especially with this constant brag ⬇️ that it can be changed from said lock screen. There are more than enough dumb emoji. Fix it so I can actually see what I personally choose to display on my screens.

Now I know not to waste time with support, since there's clearly no fix.

After spending many thousands of dollars over the years on your products and services, the least you can do is have ios operate as advertised. Windows never works the it should.

Stuff like this is too dumb and too frustrating for a nearly trillion-dollar valued corp.
