2TB Time Capsule, Error -6753 "An error occurred while reading..."

Brand new 2TB Time Capsule, had been working nominally as a base station and file server.
Base Station continued to function nominally, until I could no longer get into change it's configuration through Airport Utility. The base station and switch were in bridge mode, and continued to work, until, i decided I needed to make some configuration changes to the File Server accounts. That's when I discovered that my iMac could no longer read the configuration information of the Time Capsule. The error it finally reports after several minutes is, "An error occurred while reading the configuration." and gave a -6753 error code. Airport Utility had no problem discovering the device, and the TC was directly connected via an ethernet patch cable to my iMac. In fact, no problem was reported at all, and I had a green light; however, I could not access the TC via airport utility to make configuration changes.

That's when I looked up the procedure for doing a hard reset. After performing the hard reset, Airport Utility correctly reports that there is a TC with default settings. However, it still cannot read the TC's configuration, and I get the identical error message as before the hard rest.

I've seen the 6753 error message in several other posts, but never exactly in the setting that I find myself. The TC is a hot paper weight. I shall have to send it off for repairs I presume, and it should still be well within it's warranty period. This does not provide me with the level of comfort that I would need to entrust my backup data files to this device. I'd been using a 1TB West Digital SATA drive connect via the Firewire 800 port local to the iMac for the iMac's Time Machine. Good thing I wasn't trusting my files to the care of the TC. From what I've read in these forums, the TC is not nearly stable enough to be used for backups.

Have you tried a Factory Default Reset? A "hard reset" will not always return the device back to a "factory" default state, even though Airport Utility may report that the device is back to defaults.

Might be worth a try if you haven't already tried this.

Power down the Time Capsule for at least 10-15 minutes
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold it in, plug power back into the Time Capsule
Keep holding the reset button until the amber light begins to blink more quickly, hold another second or two and then release.
