External Drives STILL ejecting during sleep in Ventura

Welp... I landed here after a trip to the store (Gone 20 minutes) and found this reported from my OWC 8TB raid. I'm a TV/Film composer and I spent a LOT of time loading this thing.

As Otto cried in "A Fish Called Wanda": "DISSAPOINTED!!!"

Any advice or do I spend a few days RE-LOADING this thing?

Strange . . . this just happened when I plugged in a SanDisk Extreme GO 1 TB drive into my Macbook Pro M1. Kept seeing the "disk not ejected properly" message. I tried another SSD (a SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB, let the computer go to sleep a few times and each time never saw the message. Going to try the GO again with a the Pro cable and see if that makes any difference.

I appreciate the the suggestion, but I'm a photographer, not a programmer, so the above it beyond me. Second, if there is what appears to be such a simple solution why have not Apple fixed this problem which has persisted for years?

Where an answer appears in a thread depends on how you have the thread sorted. For an individual thread, you can change the sort order at the top of the answers, on the right. But if we change the location to "en-us" the article changes?, so I am not sure.

It’s unfathomable that this is still an issue. I have two identical and fairly new rugged LaCie that I alternate for TM on an iMac M1 running Monterey, only using the supplied OEM USB-C cable. One of them never ejects, the other one does all the time, making it practically unusable (although it does back up). I have erased, reformatted and reset in all kinds of ways but to no avail. Hardware failure? Any input is much appreciated.

And the hard disks aren't just ejecting after sleep, but multiple times AFTER any sleep session. The only way to avoid this happening, other than Apple just FIXING IT, is to never plug in your external drives after sleep. Which is Lookin' at you, apple. We want a solush!!! We will all love you if you just make our expensive computers WORK properly in this regard.

I understand how frustrating it can be when the latest OS update, in this case, macOS 14.4.1, Sonoma, leads to issues with external drives. This also applies to all previous versions of the OS. These drives are ejecting' at any time the system wishes to do so,' with the message 'Disk Not Ejected Properly.'

It has been going on for over a year or more, and it has affected all versions of MacOS that I have used.

However, when I check, the drives are still connected and accessible, and the 'Disk Not Ejected Properly' message piles up on the right side of the screen, one after another. Oh my gosh, here come more popup messages, with what all of you are familiar with added: "Eject 'Drive Name' before disconnecting or turning it off." Yet, it is still there and active.

I'm not sure how that is possible.

Previously, they were truly ejected and did cause problems, requiring the Disk Utility First Aid and sometimes a reformatting of the drive to make the Disk Utility First Aid work. I need to make sure I have a backup.

So far, the problem has only occurred on my MBP M1, not on my other, older Mac.

I am an unsatisfied user of my new MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, when I worked with Support in the past, they were not open-minded or willing to solve problems.

It appears they pass the buck to users to attempt workarounds. How lame is that?

It would appear this topic is being ignored by Apple, and any updates to this thread are very old. The Apple community may no longer be having problems like I am, or they have all just grown used to whatever work they are living with.

It would be great if someone knowledgable in Apple could solve the problem. Maybe Bill and Malinda Gates would provide a grant for a solution.

LaCie 2tb Mobile HDD keeps ejecting, as per all the other posts. This was fine before updating to the latest SONOMA 14.4.1 - never was an issue. Now it happens continually all day and night. I have followed recommendations listed and it is making no difference. We all love apple, but this is getting to be a joke. Obviously a fix is needed Apple and quickly. I will be pretty upset if it buggers up the drive (or files). Trying to run a design business is hard enough without dreading to perform an upgrade.

Apple often doesn't respond to bug reports unless they need more information from you.

Don't assume nothing is being done just because you don't hear back.

Yep, that's the preferred workaround, and is effectively what the OS would need to do for option #2, above.

I'm not sure which Pro you are referring to, but I have a MacPro 5,1 and run macOS Mojave without issue.

Ah, you said "Pro" so I thought you meant you had a tower MacPro.
