Restart paused iOS 16.1 update on iPad

Trying to install iOS16.1 on an iPad Pro, Wi-Fi dropped for second or two during download. Now says process is paused and nothing happens or appears to be able to restart. Tried a shut down and reboot. It went through the verify request stage ok but the went to “Paused”. How can the update going again?

Keep your iPad connected to its Power Adapter and with a good WiFi signal - and leave the iPad undisturbed. If the process does not automatically resume with a couple of hours, perform a forced-restart of the iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

You are very welcome. Hopefully the update process will recover - either on its own (yes, with patience 🙂), or with help of the forced restart if needed.

If the update doesn’t recover, we can look at the next steps if and when we have cause to look at the status at that time. Please do report back to let us know that everything is good, or that you need more help.

Patience is a virtue! Went away to do something else for a few hours leaving the device with power (not sure if relevant).

Came back and it was ready to install. Ran install and all was as it should be :)

Be good it there was some visual indication that the issue was being worked on.

Personally feel the silent approach based on you should Read The Flipping Manual can be harsh - especially to folk who are not at ease with technology.

Believe it is always good to remember not everybody has the skills or knowledge of an expert.

Hey ho, doubt this will make any difference as this thought pattern is so ingrained into the technology culture.

Thanks again LotusPilot for your help, have a good one.
