The Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adaptor is Thunderbolt 2. To use it with the new Macs, you will also need the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-c connector) to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor. Connect that one to your computer, then the FW800 adaptor to the TB3 to TB2 adaptor.

Hi,
You need to get USB-C to Firewire adapter. Thunderbolt 1 and 2 are not compatible connector with USB-C or Thunderbolt 3.
That is a ThunderBolt-2 to firewire adapter, designed for Macs before 2016.. It can be used on a recent Mac by adding the Apple Thunderbolt-3 <-> ThunderBolt-2 adapter (about US$50) as well.
You may prefer to start over, and buy a third-party USB-C to Firewire adapter (or USB-C or USB-3 to-camera adapter, if that is where you are going with this).
if this is to connect a disk drive, please post a picture of the available connectors on the drive. Better solutions may be available
Boy am not happy with Apple! I looked for cables only Compatible with my new 2021 M1MBP and this cable came up so I bought it. Not 1 port on my new MBP that will work this “compatible” cable.grrrr

Looks like the Apple store does not sell this adapter?
Any recommendations where to find
that cable?
Thank you. I have had only Macs since 1984. So if you name a connector I know how to use it……except with….The 2021 M1 14” Mac Book pro and Thunderbolt connectors are new to me.
I’ve done a lot of reading since then and it’s gonna cost me big time, because even the Apple ethernet adapter to thunderbolt 2 is an old thunderbolt connector and will not fit in my new M1 Mac. Looking to do a migration and also to be able to mount my older Seagate firewire drives to my new MBP for photos Music etc.
The only thing I did right so far is buy a portable Crucial x8 two Tb as a back up for my new MBP.
Post a picture or the names of all the connectors on the back of that seagate enclosure, and readers can help you analyze what would work at reasonable transfer rates.
There is likely a USB connector there, and if this is a rotating magnetic drive inside, Some USB speeds are close to what you can get by FireWire.
I just shuffled a lot of my FireWire enclosures around, and I found that some USB connections in many cases were comparable to FireWire
Wow thank you!! You gave me an idea.
I ended up doing a time machine back up to my fast portable Crucial X8 SSD I purchased to use with my new M1 14” MBP for back up.
I used it with the 2009 MBP using the USB 2 type adapter that came with it and Formatted the X8 to Guid HFS + and it actually worked!!
It actually mounted it on the M1 desk top
But before I do a migration I want to make a bootable Monteray OS on a San Disk portable thumb drive 128 gig with USBC connector in case I really gum up my fresh install so I will be able to reinstall Monterey and then have to copy all my apps and everything over by by hand.
