Getting Time of Day To Appear Continuously in Apple Books iPad/iPhone

I have just upgraded to iOS16. In the prior iOS's version of Apple Books, one could click on the page to have the time of day posted at upper left portion of screen, and the page number with total pages posted at the bottom. Now that only appears initially when you click on the settings icon in the lower part of the screen. And then it disappears.

Knowing the time of day when I am doing reading of any sort is important to me. I just have a feeling that there is a setting for this that I am missing. I have already checked Books setting in Preferences and it is not there.

Any thoughts?

It appears that there is a new setting for iPadOS16 books that controls this behaviour:

Settings > Books > [Reading] Show Status Bar

If set to OFF (this being the new default setting), the Time/Date and system status icons a suppressed when reading a book.

If set to ON, the status bar remains visible.

When using the Apple Books App - after initial display - iPadOS16.1 appears to suppress time and date information at top-left and the status icons at top-right of the screen.

Whether or not this is by design, or is a bug, is unknown.
