Apple TV updated but my iPhone SE does not work with it: to update my Apple ID it requires putting iPhone with OS 16 next to it but my iPhone is not iOS 16. How can I update my Apple ID on the Apple TV
I did contact Apple from the links you provided and got to a very helpful person on the phone. She had to research it and find out why. The answer is just what we suspected: they have updated the Apple TV to 16 and it will only talk to an iPhone or iPAD with iOS 16 or better. I have an iPhone SE iOS 14.4. that cannot even get to iOS 16. No going backwards on the Apple TV, no substituting another person instead of me because it can never get a code for permission to make any changes. When I am finally tired of having an out of date iPhone and forced to get a new one, perhaps it will have an iOS compatible with the lastest update on my Apple TV. Their loss. We do not buy anything on Apple TV and don't need any Apple ID codes to function. And this cinches it.

Hi just wanted to share as we had the dame problem. With Apple's help we went back to the factory settings and set it up again with my husband has the primary - then added me, which you could then do manually. Apple was pretty surprised that this is so hard. Hope this is helpful to others.
I think it still will be a problem if it insists on getting the code for Apple ID via putting my iPhone SE (which cannot have iOs 16) next to the Apple TV to get the code. I was actually trying to find this correspondence today from earlier this month, where we ended with you saying I need to talk to Apple support. This is a bug that they've caused having an inflexible final step of "put the cell phone next to the Apple TV to get the code" and no other options.
On Apple TV, please try signing out, and then sign in again.
