Hello kristalavm4,

First ensure the device is using the latest iOS version to help ensure the latest fixes and improvements are applied. Currently the latest version is iOS 16.1: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 15.7 or iOS 16.

5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

Be sure to check and ensure the device has a good amount of storage available. This can be found in Settings > General > [Device] Storage.

Also ensure there aren't any restrictions, which may be found in Settings > Screen Time: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Cheers.
