AirPods (2nd Gen Standard Charging Case) Connection Issues

After upgrading to MacOS Ventura (13.0) and iOS 16.1, my AirPods are having connection issues.

I am unable to pair them to my MacBook (M1 Air) at all - going into the bluetooth settings and selecting "Connect" for the AirPods, I receive an error saying "Connection Unsuccessful".

For my iPhone, I have to constantly forget them after placing them in the case and have to re-pair them to have them work on my iPhone (11) - as they show up on the battery widget but don't appear under to the control centre (when selecting the output source). And they don't make the connected noise when I put them in my ears.

I never had this issue before upgrading the software.

What can I do? The coverage has expired.

iPhone 11, iOS 16

Hi JacquesB13,

It sounds like there could be wireless interference causing the connection issues. Check for wireless interference by following the suggestions outlined here: If the sound from your wireless headphones cuts out or is distorted - Apple Support

Additionally, resetting your AirPods may help clear up the behavior: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

  1. "Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case.
  4. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth, or Settings > [your AirPods], and tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods. If you don't see your AirPods in Settings > Bluetooth or in Settings > [your AirPods], just go to the next step.
  5. Tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.
  6. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*
  7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Follow the steps on your device's screen."
