Setting Kids downtime past midnight

Hello,

I’m trying to set up downtime for my teenage children and want to configure ‘Customise Days’ within downtime to Sunday-Thursday 11.30pm-7am and then Friday and Saturday 1pm-7am.

There doesn’t seem to be any way of doing this? I have seen several posts outlining similar issues and read the user guide to downtime, but as of yet have not come across any satisfactory solutions to this problem and wondered if this was an oversight on Apples part?

Look forward to any suggestions…

This does not solve the problem. All you did was show him how to get to the settings he already knows how to get to. The problem is that you can't go to an after midnight downtime and back and not have one night messed up.

If you do this you don't have downtime on for Sunday night through Monday morning:

Mon-Thu: 11:30PM - 7AM (7AM is the next morning so this is really Mon night - Fri morning)

Friday: off (since you already have Friday morning covered and you don't want downtime until Saturday early morning (after midnight Friday)

Sat-Sun: 1AM - 7AM

And it won't let you do this (and even if it did, Saturday night to Sunday morning wouldn't be covered):

Sun-Thu: 11:30PM - 7AM

Fri-Sat: 1AM - 7AM (can't do this because there is overlap Friday morning)

Thanks DerekM87 for your reply, but nate.thelen is right this doesn't solve the problem. Thanks nate.thelen for your comment I'm glad you get it and its not me being incompetent. I really don't think its possible and have resorted to manually switching on and off at the weekends which is frustrating and not ideal.

Probably an easy fix would be to have the ability to add time slots with the option to also choose the days as well as the on/off times, making this scenario possible. Anyway, as parents with older kids we live in hope… Apple take note, teenagers still need downtime too otherwise they won't sleep and at weekends this might be past midnight.

If anyone does find a solution please let me know. Many thanks

Hi SimonSCT,

You can see options for scheduling downtime for a child's device here:

"Set downtime and app limits on a family member’s device

  1. On your family member’s device, go to Settings  > Screen Time.
  2. Tap Turn On Screen Time, tap Continue, then tap This is My Child’s iPhone.
  3. To schedule downtime for your family member (time away from the screen), enter the start and end times, then tap Set Downtime.
  4. To set limits for categories of apps you want to manage for your family member (for example, Games or Social Networking), select the categories.
  5. To see all the categories, tap Show All Categories.
  6. Tap Set, enter an amount of time, then tap Set App Limit.
  7. Tap Continue, then enter a Screen Time passcode for managing your family member’s Screen Time settings.

Note: You can also turn on downtime on demand for a family member, either directly on their device, or through Family Sharing on your device (if you’ve set up Family Sharing).

If your child requests more screen time, you can approve or decline the request in Settings > Screen Time or in Messages."

If there is not an option to customize downtime to your liking, we can recommend submitting feedback to Apple Support.

Take care.
