lost visual voicemail and speech to text translation after updating to iOS 16.0

I have a iPhone 8 plus with Verizon Wireless. Before I updated to iOS16 in September, I was able to read a translation of all my voice mail messages right after they came in. Once I updated, I didn't really get many voice mail messages, but the ones I did get didn't give me a speech to text translation. Which is very helpful when trying to return a call from folks working from home - they call from one number but want you to call them on another number which they leave during the message.

I called Verizon technical support and they had me go through two different tech support people. They had me reset my phone, and then restore from backup. Didn't solve the problem. Then they told me to contact Apple - which I did. Apple blamed Verizon.

But looking at the Apple webpage on Visual Voicemail, it looks like I can't get visual voicemail from VZN unless I have a 5G phone - yet another scam to make me upgrade to a new phone to get a feature that I should still be able to get without a 5G phone. Can't decide who is at fault here - VZN or Apple!

A friend has an iPhone 8s with the same problem. She found a guy to reinstall the last version of iOS 15.7, and she got her Visual Voicemail back. I tried re-installing it myself, and it didn't work for me on my phone - I could read my old pre September speech to text translations, but nothing afterwards - even with 15.7 reinstalled on my phone. So I went back to 16.0.1

Can't believe that no one has complained to Apple and/or Verizon about this - but they claim to have never heard of this problem before.
