iPhone 14 pro camera keeps turing on in my pocket

I am a little disappointed in my 14 pro. Somehow the camera keeps turning on in my pocket. I constantly pull my phone out only to find that the camera is active and photos or video has been captured. There is no way to turn the swipe left to activate camera off. I also find that the swiping up action is not as responsive as my 13 pro and sometimes have to hit the lock button and try again. Final complaint is that the battery life, although touted to be better is somehow much worse. So... I am wondering if anyone once else is seeing these thing or if this is a specific issue with my phone? Thanks in advance!

First, turn off Settings/Display & Brightness/Raise to Wake. Also, carry the phone with the front of the camera facing away from your body so the proximity of your skin to the screen doesn’t result in “butt dialing”. This has the added advantage of protecting the un-replaceable back glass from impact damage. It may be counterintuitive, but the front glass can be easily replaced; the back glass and camera lens cannot be without replacing the phone.

Hi CCSFO,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

We'd recommend getting an inspection of your iPhone 14 Pro to find out what exactly the issue is with your camera coming on in your pocket.

Please contact Apple Support.

As far as your battery issue, be sure you have updated to iOS 16.1 to eliminate the issue being related to an outdated iOS version.

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

These include:

  1. Turning down brightness
  2. Using Auto-Brightness.
  3. Using Wi-Fi when possible
