Can you please update this “feature” to not be the default when we delete a text thread? I have reported junk so many times by accident for friends, family, businesses I like etc. It can/should be an option, but not the default/first option. Thanks.

The option should not present itself when the sender is in your contacts. You need to ensure your friends are in your contacts list.
The junk feature will not prevent further texts if you add them to contacts after the reporting.
Apple will use the information to assess if they get many many junk reports they may inform the provider of the reported number, your one report will do no harm.
