SIM pin: locked or skip?

Hello community,

Not sure if the issue occurs in English, but in Dutch, I believe to have found a usability hurdle...

After restarting the Iphone version IOS 16.03 the screen gives you the option "Vergrendeld" (Locked) or below "Sla over" (skip) as a secondairy option. To me that was quite confusing.

To continue to unlocking your sim, you need to click "Vergrendeld" = locked

which refers to the current state but not to the desired state. Additionally you might also consider that a sim that is locked is not the same as an unlocked sim. Probably my fuzzy head but; for a minute I thought my sim was locked, which occurs when you click the pin wrong too many times.

My suggestions would be use "Ontgrendel" or "Unclock" instead, for the action of moving ahead to the sim pincode screen.

And then, when you decide to skip the sim pin for now - for what ever reason, there is no easy way to go back to that screen; is there a way to make a widget for that, that only occurs when you decide to sim pin later?

If you forgot or don't know your SIM PIN

Never try to guess a SIM PIN or PUK code.* The wrong guess can permanently lock your SIM card, and then you would need a new SIM card. If your device asks for a PIN or code that you don't know, here's what to do:

  1. Contact the carrier that gave you the SIM card. If you aren't sure which carrier to call, remove the SIM card and check the card for the carrier's name or logo.
  2. Ask your carrier to help you unlock your SIM card using the default SIM PIN or PUK code.
  3. If you can't unlock your SIM card using the SIM PIN or PUK code or if an alert says, "PUK exhausted," ask for a new SIM card.

*If you enter the wrong SIM PIN too many times, your wireless carrier might be able to give you a Personal Unlocking Key (PUK).

YES correct +++ ... But my point

I understand there is pro's around like you guys, that know the answer to almost any question on IOS Shizzle and that's great by the way. Thank you for that.

My point was, i think it be more intuitive with the right wording; not all your users know they have the privilege to get super fast answers from super pro's like you above here (guessing 1% finds it's way to these pages.)

  • I won't tell anyone but it's officially a usability mistake to name your labels to their actual state while on duty for a task. :(
  • but luckally the button is at the thumb (for most of us)
