Apple Music Storage

I just got an 256 GB iPhone 14 Pro a few days ago. When I synced my data from my old 128 GB iPhone 12 to my new phone, my music library took up more than double the amount of storage on my new phone. More specifically, the same amount of songs on my old iPhone 12 took up 70 GB, but on my new phone it is over 200 GB. I know there is the same exact amount of music on both phones as I checked individual songs, were I found that ~3-5 MB songs on the old phone were now ~8-12 MB on the new one. I checked the audio setting on both phones and they were identical (Both have Lossless audio ON with High Quality Cellular Streaming, Dolby Atoms OFF). To try and reduce the insane 200 GB I turned OFF lossless audio and it removed all the downloaded apple music files and has yet to redownload anything because it say there is ~213 GB of "Other System Data". So 1) why is the same amount of music taking up twice as much storage on my new phone with the same audio settings and how can I get it back to the original 70 GB? 2) How do I get this 200+ GB of System Data off my phone? How seen anything like this discussed before. Thanks.

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

Hey there Luke,

It sounds like you're having two issues:

  1. 200GB showing for Music in your storage settings even though your last iPhone only shows 70GB of usage
  2. 213GB showing for 'Other System Data' in your built-in storage

Let's start with the 'Other System Data' first by confirming some details about the issue, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. We see you're using iOS 16, but the latest for your mode is iOS 16.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Are all apps up to date? Here's how to check: How to manually update apps on your Apple device
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  4. Are you seeing any storage full alerts on your iPhone screen?

Cheers!
