problems adding contacts in MacBook pro macOS 12.6

i can't add contacts to MacBook pro. when i add a card and start typing the system abruptly switches to a different card. i notice that others are having the same problem and the response is to do exactly what they say, and what i have always done, but it doesnt work. this has been going on for months. please fix it on your next update! I have been using macs since the 1980s so am not new to the machine. surely you can fix it.
